1: He [J.R.] is Sharon.
2: Sharon is a miniature version.
3: He steps over the bodies of his friends. There are a lot of people like that. Take people in politics.
1: Don't smear. Why are you smearing?
3: I's exactly that. Politicians are dirty people.
2: Sharon is not politics.
This is a conversation between some kibbutz members, in which (1) compares Ariel Sharon (at that time the Israeli Defence Minister) to J.R., a character from the American soap opera "Dallas". It is not clear to me what speaker (2) meant by saying Sharon is not politics but I think he tries to defend him as he also says 'Sharon is a miniature version' which means to me that he is not as bad as J.R. You can find this extract in Liebes and Katz "The export of meaning".

Sharon is not "people in politics"
I think it's saying that Sharon shouldn't be discussed in the same terms as politicians/ people in politics. He's obviously a politician as such, so I'd put "people in politics" in inverted commas to get across the idea that he's not in that category which is being discussed in an unpleasant manner.
