English term
primum & secundum
English
Medical
Medical: Cardiology
There are three types:the commonest is in the middle of the atrial septum (the SECUNDUM defect)
Primum has been used as heading:
PRIMUM atrial septal defect
I have tried to know its meaning but have been unsuccessful despite consulting a number of dictionaries. Surprisingly, these words don't even figure in most of the dictionaries.
Could you enlighten me about its meaning and concept in brief.
Thanks in anticipation.

primary & secondary
I think the terms just mean primary and secondary. Doctors and other medical people have a predilection for scattering Latin words and phrases through their writings. There are quite a number of Google hits to support my theory.

primum & secundum
The "ostium primum" and "ostium secundum" are two "holes" of the embryo heart. If they do not close as normal an atrial septal defect may persist. The name of the defect is the same of the unclosed ostium.
