a romantic reflection of earlier times.

English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
I already asked this in the en>fr, but I just thought maybe in the english section you could tell me what you think the author means here :

Holding onto those memories and some of the memorabilia I collected in childhood is an important part of what my life is all about. They are part of what ,my book is about, too--a romantic reflection of earlier times.

English term (edited): a romantic reflection of earlier times
Selected

an idealized look at the past / at the time when I was young

"earlier times" can mean either. We know from what precedes it that he is referring to the time when he was young.

a romantic musing; contemplation of my childhood. Precious memories...

which are still very much a part of me now because that child is always present and will continue to be as I evolve.

Or something along those lines. Here are some synonyms:

Noun 1. reflection - a calm lengthy intent consideration
musing, rumination, thoughtfulness, contemplation, reflexion
cogitation, study - attentive consideration and meditation; "after much cogitation he rejected the offer"
consideration - the process of giving careful thought to something
meditation, speculation - continuous and profound contemplation or musing on a subject or series of subjects of a deep or abstruse nature; "the habit of meditation is the basis for all real knowledge"
meditation - (religion) contemplation of spiritual matters (usually on religious or philosophical subjects)
introspection, self-contemplation, self-examination - the contemplation of your own thoughts and desires and conduct
omphaloskepsis - contemplation of one's navel
retrospect - contemplation of things past; "in retrospect"

The author means all this:

1. I live in the past.
2. Not the real past, but a spruced up version of it, in a world of pseudo reality that I have created with my imagination and corroborated by the trinkets (memorabilia) I have collected during my days.
3. This is also the subject of my book.

The author is being quite candid here about his past-phobia and is providing a warning to readers that he is obsessed with his past and readers may pick up the book only if they are comfortable with this.
