English term

I'm a fake

English Social Sciences Psychology Cognitive therapy
Maladaptive schemas:
I must be perfect to be accepted.
I'm stupid.
No matter what I do, I won't succeed.
I'm a fake.

Is there a slight chance it might mean "I'm no good, I have no 'brand quality', people don't know yet, but they will find out soon..." Or does it mean "I keep pretending"?

I'm not authentic. I am not real.

I do not believe it means I am pretending - that would have to be I am faking it or something similar.

agree NancyLynn : yes, I'm just a face, I'm a copy of the rest of the (authentic) population, I have no true worth

Now, now, Nancy Lynn, don't be so hard on yourself. I am sure you have some intrinsic worth. - MIke :)
agree Paula Vaz-Carreiro : Yes, I'm not genuine; I am a forgery or sham // :-))

agree Tony M : I think in a way this approaches "I'm pretending" — if you feel a fake, you probbaly feel you're pretending all the time to be someone you're not

Interesting twist - Mike :)

agree Suzan Hamer : A fraud, a person "not fulfilling expectation or description" (Oxford Concise). Someone trying to be something he's not; someone presenting a facade to the world.
