Selcuk Akyuz (asker) Mar 14, 2006:
Dear Anna, in fact I was looking for the name of the instrument which regulates the relations between flat owners in a commonhold, I am not sure about the American term -declaration of condominium, and looking for the British term. Possibly, I have given a wrong reference with declaration of condominium, please read the question "the name of the instrument which regulates the relations between flat owners in a commonhold"

For commonhold community statement please see
http://www.lease-advice.org/commonmain.htm
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2002/20020015.htm

Sorry for my misleading question.
Anna Maria Augustine (X) Mar 14, 2006:
I have never heard of that and it does not seem to make sense in this context.
Selcuk Akyuz (asker) Mar 14, 2006:
Can it be commonhold community statement?

I know it as this.

It would then be the Commonhold Association, which, in turn must answer to the Land registry.

Hope this helps.

Thank you
agree Jack Doughty : Plenty of backing on Google, and it seems just as common in US English as UK.

agree William [Bill] Gray : I agree, but I also find this term used extensively in hits on Google from the US. Is there a difference between the British and American understanding of this term? Or is "declaration of condominium" just an extra piece of legalese? Just curious ;-)

neutral Can Altinbay : Your note may be correct. Joint ownership and contract are the same in the US. "Condominium" would be more specific.

condominium declaration

One of my hats for a short while: I was President of my condo board. Whatever else this document may be called in the US or the UK, the phrase "condominium declaration" refers to a specific legal document drawn up at the the time the condo development is created.

Bylaws govern operations of the condo association.

The condo declaration in our case covered some stuff about the location of the development, the founding of the body, and various required legalese.

neutral juvera : The question was: "What is the British equivalent of...." Let's make one thing clear: condominium is not a term used in the UK, unless they are talking about condominiums abroad, or advertising them for foreigners.

Absolutely right, and I apologize for not fully reading Asker's notes about what is wanted. Thank you.
