English term

air-balled

English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation idiom
From an article describing a basketball match.
"Clippers center DeAndre Jordan was credited with nine rebounds to go with 14 points. He also had a few rim-rattling dunks and an air-balled free throw."

Is that a (free) throw that misses touching the hoop rim? (Probably.)

Thanks in advance. MAu

In my previos answer I did not mention the net. The ball does not touch anything. That's why it is called an 'airball'.

Djenkuje barzo, Dariusz. Wondering what you hid (previously). [grin]Maurizio

The ball fails to kiss anything. :-) Thank you, airmailrpl.
