Discussion

Melanie Nassar Jan 27, 2010:
Common construction The construction "verb + your way" means to pass time by doing something (sleep your way, eat your way, play your way through life/the day/the movie). Count your way is just a variation on this. It could actually have something to do with traveling across the USA, but it definitely has something to do with numbers.
Sheila Wilson Jan 27, 2010:
Nothing obvious No link with "count on me", IMO. "Make your way" is quite likely synonymous, but I'm sure they had a reason for phrasing it like this - perhaps counting the miles?
Egil Presttun (asker) Jan 27, 2010:
Counting, calculating or playing with numbers OK, so it probably means counting, calculating, learning or playing with numbers while travelling, meaning that "count" simply refers to counting numbers, not something like "count on me" or "make your way". Can we agree on that? Or could "Make your way" be a possible interpretation?

I don't have any context that can clarify it, so I just seek to know if I am missing anything which is obvious to native English speaking people.

Thanks to all of you.

Sheila Wilson Jan 27, 2010:
One is for sun; two is for shoes, ... The title is from a book that literally uses numbers to categorise information about China, so the reader learns the numbers in Chinese and interesting facts about China at the same time. Whether your text does the same thing is impossible for me (or anyone here) to tell.
Egil Presttun (asker) Jan 27, 2010:
count your way It can be a word play, and the little context I have will probably be more confusing than explanatory. But I mostly want to know if "Count you way" could mean "Find your way". Take a look at this example:

Sheila Wilson Jan 27, 2010:
No other clues about what this refers to? Is there any chance of having the text around this term, please? Also, an idea of what the text is about would help. 5 words in the field of tourism isn't much to go on.
Catharine Cellier-Smart Jan 27, 2010:
Context ? This could apply to a lot of things. Do you have any more context ?

getting around (in China)

After reading the review in the provided link, it seems that this book talks about how to count numbers up till 10, pronunciation, facts about the country, such as geography, pictures, writings, etc. which I believe is no different than a guide book about China.

agree Sheila Wilson : more of a catchy title than anything else

series of children's books

Could it be referring to these books? In that case, it probably is about counting/number games.

I don't know if the link works, just Google "count your way across the USA"
Note from asker:
Your comment is very good. The construction "verb + your way" means to pass time by doing something (sleep your way, eat your way, play your way through life/the day/the movie). Thank you. You definitely deserve kudos for this, but kudoz points can only be given to one answer, and it's hard to choose one in this case.

agree Stephanie Ezrol : I posted a reference on the book series. This must be it.

be careful in choosing motels/caravan sights while you travel across US day and night

"Count your way"- you should see, how many days/nights you'd have to travel and you should book your motels/hotels/place for camping.
