I thought of "distortion" as well, but Verblendung seems an odd choice of word to express that concept.
Perhaps the idea is "Bilder miteinander verblenden", i.e. to merge images with each other?
I might translate something like "a tendency toward fracturing and merging images".

: Einblenden is to dissolve, in a cinematic sense - this seems to be the same idea.

mingling
fracturing and mingling of images-I'm not sure form the text if the images are mingled or merged, so it is hard to know which word fits better. If the images are fractured and then presented so as to create new images, then "merge" if juxtaposed, then "mingle".

I thought Verblendung meant "blindness", so I wonder if it doesn't refer here to how images are becoming blurred or indistinct.
