Russian term

снять/установить

Russian to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
At http://www.best-tyres.ru/dop/kond , they offer various services. Among them are:
Компрессор снять/установить от 1350 р. до 4000 р.
and
Замена трубки – от 550 р.

What's the difference between снять/установить and Замена? I'm convinced there is one, because some auto repair shops have different charges for снять/установить than for Замена on the same part.

Discussion

Dmitriy Vysotskyy Jul 18, 2008:
Thank you very much for your points. It was my pleasure to serve you.
Oleksandr Melnyk Jul 18, 2008:
Согласен с Дмитрием. "Снять-установить" - об одной и той же детали (агрегате) (сняли, отремонтировали, поставили обратно). "Замена" - старая деталь снимается, новая ставится.
Dmitriy Vysotskyy Jul 18, 2008:
They may repair and install the old one!
Dmitriy Vysotskyy Jul 18, 2008:
In this piece they mention separately two operations: compressor removal/installation and tube replacement. When they remove and install a compressor it doesn't mean that they replace it!
Oleksandr Melnyk Jul 18, 2008:
"Замена", в принципе, - то же, что и "снять-установить", но дешевле, т.к. не нужно заботиться о целостности снятой детали.

I checked the site you referenced. It DIRECTLY says "Ремонт авто кондиционеров". Hence, no doubts - it means with 99% confidence level that this labor charge may include not only removal and installment but also repair works.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This sounds like what's going on. They remove the compressor, do the repair, then reinstall it and charge separately for the repair (such as replacing the hose). You wouldn't be able to replace the hose if you didn't remove the compressor first, and then you have to put the compressor back. "

Maybe they are not replacing the compressor?

Perhaps this is what the labour charge for removing the compressor and putting it back again. Would the amount mentioned be within the bounds of possibility for such a service?

refurbish/rebuild

I think they are removing, repairing and reinstalling the item. I had the automatic gearbox "rebuilt" on a car I owned: I knew it was essentially the same gearbox going back, but with components being replaced as required, and the whole thing being realigned.

neutral Dmitriy Vysotskyy : it's ok, but this compressor is a part of air conditioner not a gearbox. see what i wrote earlier
