Discussion

Turdimurod Rakhmanov Jul 15, 2017:
Just my opinion, no need to translate Russian word "практикум" into English as "practicum" even if it is a name of a course. It should be known and clear for everybody. For example: Практикум по переводу Автор Олег Мешков - Learn to translate by translating-very good translation. IF we translate this: "practicum in translation", this would be a "complete mistranslation". Which is better and clear?

OR other versions more direct translation:
Computer-based training in accounting / Computer-based accounting
The Misha Jul 15, 2017:
Which would be a complete mistranslation under the circumstances. It's a name of a course, for crying out loud.
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Jul 15, 2017:
I would avoid translating directly, to make more sense,
I would translate:
Learn Accounting (via) by using computer or Learn Accounting by (via) Comp.

Just my version.

(The term of art is "practicum". Many fine definitions of it may be found on the Internet.)
(Some "practicums" are not employment experiences but merely laboratory-like practice programs or working sessions intended for students to gain practical experience in areas of knowledge taught in the classroom. However, in my experience 90% of "practicums" are actual employment experiences.)

agree mrrafe : Usually I would prefer workshop because practicum is so esoteric; but the ST says practicum, and the program may have been more intensive than a workshop

agree The Misha : Forty years of speaking English and two academic degrees later, I can't recall ever seeing this word, practicum, actually used in English. Otherwise, I am with you. Methink, it doesn't matter what this or that dictionary says. Established usage matters.

Computer/digital workshop on accounting

If you'd like to hightlight that the training involves some practical tasks for students, "workshop" should be a good solution.
