Russian term

неосознанно растрачивая себя

Russian to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Упорядоченно, по отлаженной системе, люди обращают свои жизни в пыль, неосознанно растрачивая себя на какую угодно ерунду, подменяя подлинные чувства их нелепой имитацией.

Thank you.

inadvertently wasting themselves by getting involved into

Should be fine within the context.
Peer comment(s):

disagree The Misha : For an American, "wasting themselves" literally means "killing themselves" - as in a bullet in the head, that kind of wasting. "Involved" requires "in" or "with" rather than "into". That's basic grammar, I am afraid.
