Природа, берега, река - все похоже на нашу Сибирь. На берега хотелось бы обратить особое внимание. Как правило, срезы на многочисленных поворотах обнажают песчанно-глинистый состав. Самый верхний слой более темный - почти плодородная земля, ближе к воде попадается галька.

: I'm inclined to agree with you, though the word "shears" sounds bizarre and would confuse me if I were reading this in English, but my knowledge of geology is probably insufficient

Thank you. My geological dictionary also gives "truncation" and "section", but I don't think either of these sounds any better.
