Russian term

своя рубаха ближе к телу

Russian to English Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings Proverb aphorism
Just an aphorism I'm trying to translate. If someone could recommend a good online source or book with English translations of Russian aphorisms (or the reverse), that would be excellent.

Thank you!

Not sure if you know about the multitran dictionary, but it's usually a great source of idioms and proverbs (this one alone has over a dozen variations). Check it out:

Charity begins at home

or: Look after number one.

There's probably something better than either of those, but that' all I can think of for now. Soryy, I don't know of any book of aphorisms for the Russian-English pair.
