self-disunity; dissociation with oneself

Please ignore the "dissociation" suggestion :) It doesn't fit:

Definition:
[n] a state in which some integrated part of a person's life becomes separated from the rest of the personality and functions independently
Peer comment(s):

neutral Peter Shortall : The former does sound rather scientific and I'm not sure it matches the tone of the original. "Dissociation" implies more failure to acknowledge one's own identity than disagreement; it also takes "from", not "with" as the prefix implies.

Thank you for that correction. However as you misunderstood the original, I'm not sure about the validity of your first argument

being at odds with oneself

"The purpose of art is always, deeply, to bring something that can be called serenity, repose; to make for quieting. But because of the honest stirring, one is supposed to feel less at odds with oneself and the world." (Michael Palmer)

self-hatred
