Spanish term

bolsas de sustitución

Spanish to English Other Education / Pedagogy University website information
Hi, I'm having difficulty ascertaining the correct English translation of this phrase. It appears on the informational website of a university as follows:

El Vicerrectorado de la XXXX ha convocado el proceso selectivo para la provisión de bolsas de sustitución y seleccionar profesorado sustituto para su contratación en régimen de derecho laboral.

Thanks for your help!

Supply/substitute professor (job) listings

“Supply” professor is rather UK terminology, whereas “substitute professor” is US speak, what you probably need judging by your residence country. We are speaking here about “bolsas de profesores sustitutos” (= bolsas de sustitución), i.e. professors who substitute a vacant chair for a limited period of time in situations where the regular professor is not available, for instance when they are on leave or for some other reason.

The term “bolsa” meaning here “bolsa de trabajo” normally refers in the academic world to job listings, so I would go for “substitute professor (job) listings” if your target country is the States.

This is a good description of the situation in the States, but the problem is that it does not refer to the university environment, therefore the text uses “teacher” instead of “professor”. I understand this might be also applicable to the university world, though:

Substitute Teacher Career Guide
A substitute teacher is an on-call teacher who substitutes for a full-time teacher when they are ill, taking vacation or maternity leave, or will be absent for other reasons. Substitute teachers can often choose to work on a part-time basis or accept longer-term openings that become available. This guide provides further information on what substitute teachers do, how to become one, and substitute teacher salaries and job outlooks.

Found this reference, they use UK English, though. “Interino”, not your question, is translated here as “temporary”.

Gracias por tu confirmación, Patricia.
agree neilmac : But I'd use something like - "teaching staff" rather than "professor" (catedrático)...

Noted with thanks. I suppose there are several possible options.
neutral philgoddard : I believe it's much more likely to mean teaching staff than professors.

If teaching staff is made up of only "professors" I agree this is another possible option (I am saying this because teaching staff can also include "researchers", what you seem to have forgotten).
agree abe(L)solano : staff, too

Hola Abel(L). Read my reply above to philgoddard.
agree ezpz : yo pondría algo como recruitment process for new subtitute professors, aunque la tuya es más exacta

substitute (faculty) pools

Toni has already explained what bolsas de sustitución means, so I leave you another option I found for the term you looking for.
You can check on the links bellow, also there are related to universities positions that's why I think faculty can served as an umbrella term for professor.
