Neil, this is a different meaning of claims (for instance the insurance claims) but that's the meaning of "reivindicación" for patents. Look at this:

Trouble is I could find no evidence that the Spanish term = anything other than "claims", particularly in a patent context (and I have been involved with an expert report re a pharmaceutical patent).
