Bio
I have recently gained a Distinction on completing an MA in Translation Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK, in August 2023.

My translation services offer draws upon 20 years of prior professional experience in the wine trade, hospitality, and film and television production in the UK, France, Greece and Spain. I am adept in workflows involving post-editing of AI and machine translation output, a quick-thinking problem-solver and diligent researcher. I work efficiently as part of a team and independently.

As I begin my career as a freelance translator, I am currently working part-time for XCELLAR, an importer of premium French and International wines. The role is multi-faceted and multilingual, and requires excellent industry knowledge, backed up by my WSET Level 3 in Wine Award. In 2016, for the preceding Level 2 Award, I received a mark of 100%in the exam, for which I was awarded the Laithwaites Scholarship, a bursary that enabled my to make a fact-finding tour of top wineries in the Aegean islands of Greece. Whether technical or creative (marketing, tourism, etc), I can apply this specialist knowledge in my translation practice.

During my studies in theatre and languages and early career in film and television, I gained experience working with and writing dialogue, and hope to translate this into subtitling work.

Immediately prior to returning to study translation, I set up and ran my own business, CAST Café, in Cornwall, UK. A unique café and restaurant set at the heart of a internationally-recognised centre for the contemporary arts, the business concept evolved out of my years experience as a restaurant manager in London and Cornwall and passion for creative pursuits.

I have always enjoyed writing, both to a brief and more freely on my own projects, and have been published in UK national press (The Guardian). I am currently working independently on literary translation projects and other original literary ideas.
