German term

Ader absetzen

German to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
Taken from an installation manual, in the section about electrical connection:

Elektrische Verbindung:
1. Adern nach Maß der Verbinder absetzen.
2. Elektrische Verbindung gemäß Kapitel 3.6 mit Crimpverbindungen herstellen.

Discussion

Johannes Gleim Oct 5, 2021:
@ Kim The terms "Richtig abisolierte Leitung" and "Leiter" refer to an insulated cable, rather than a core or a wire, and cannot support the proposal 'wire stripping' subsequently.

"Die nachstehenden Skizzen zeigen die häufigsten Fehler und beziehen sich sowohl auf massive als auch auf flexible Leiter.
"Im zweiten Bild erkennt man eine Einkerbung auf dem Leitermaterial kurz hinter dem Isolationsende. "

Johannes Gleim Oct 4, 2021:
Do not mismatch core and wire. They are often confused. Electrical wires are normally insulated, e.g. for luminaires, or bare, e.g. for overhead power lines.

Overhead power "wire". The conductor consists of 7 strands of steel (centre, high tensile strength), surrounded by 4 outer layers of aluminium (high conductivity). Sample diameter 40 mm.
:
Coaxial cable, one example of a jacketed and insulated wire

Electrical wires are usually covered with insulating materials, such as plastic, rubber-like polymers, or varnish.
:
For applications that need even more flexibility, even more strands are used (welding cables are the usual example, but also any application that needs to move wire in tight areas). One example is a 2/0 wire made from 5,292 strands of No. 36 gauge wire.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wire

In practice, the cable jacket, if present, is cut open and stripped. Then the wire bundle, if present, is spread and the insulation of each wire core is stripped off to the required length from the bare copper core (with or without braided strands).
Note: I used these terms during testing of electrical appliances acc. UL standards and in communication with the approval authority Underwriters Laboratories.

:
3.1 Sachstruktur

Stripping (fiber)
Stripping is the act of removing the protective polymer coating around optical fiber in preparation for fusion splicing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stripping_(fiber)

The core of a conventional optical fiber is the part of the fiber that guides the light. It is a cylinder of glass or plastic that runs along the fiber's length.

(Anm.: "core" wurde schon für elektrische Adern verwendet, lange bevor es Lichtleiter gab)

Electrical connection:
1. strip the cores acc. to the connector size.

agree Schtroumpf : Strip the wire, würde ich dazu sagen. Aber es geht in jedem Fall ums Abisolieren, richtig.
