DeMa

German to English Other Education / Pedagogy
I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. German is not a language that I translate professionally and I am just trying to help a friend. This is the context:
Im DeMa Unterricht haben wir uns mit der Sprache auseinandergesetzt. Uns beschäftigte, woher Sprache kommt und aus welchen Teilen sie besteht. Deshalb haben wir uns mit Lauten, Wörtern, Sätzen und immer auch mit ganzen Texten beschäftigt. Mit Übungen und Überlegungen zur Sprache sollte so ein anderes Bewusstsein für die Teilelemente unserer Sprache vermittelt werden. .

Discussion

TonyTK Oct 26, 2022:
It could... ... conceivably be Deutsch-Mathe. No relevant hits, though. There is this FWIW: "De/Ma Deutsch und Mathematik (Halbklassen)" at Schulhaus Stadelfeld. Not sure what to make of it. And as Phil quite rightly points out, DeMa would be a strange way to abbreviate "Deutsch mal anders". The abbreviations on the Net are "DMA" and "DEMA". Of course, if it's a Waldorfschule it could be short for "Demagogie" (only joking).
Neal Allen (asker) Oct 26, 2022:
Hello, Phil. The document is the equivalent of a report card. It lists all the subjects of the student with a paragraph of comments by the instructor. It is for a Freie Waldorfschule. There is no explantion regarding the meaning of DeMa. I am assuming it means German Mathematics, although the instructor makes no comments about math only about learning verb rules. Before the use of the abbreviation DeMa, are similar course listing with comments.

Neal Do you have the rest of the document? What does it say before and after this? I'm surprised they use the abbreviation without giving any clue as to its meaning.

A Different Approach to German

Not sure if this applies here, but it's a possibility.
DEMA: Deutsch mal anders (A Different Approach to German), https://www.goethe.de/en/spr/unt/kum/clg/20931368.html

neutral philgoddard : Neal: is this document from the Goethe-Institut? DeMa seems an odd way to abbreviate "Deutsch mal anders", and I'm not sure this is the answer.

German-Mathematics

I'd say it's a class combining German and mathematics (Deutsch-Mathematik = DeMa).

neutral uyuni : Neil's OT doesn't say anything about maths...
