French term

sensible à forte posologie aux ipenèmes

French to English Medical Medical (general) ipenèmes
Hi,

In a patient's hospital report, it says they are 'sensible à forte posologie aux ipenèmes.' I can't find the latter term and wonder if it is a misspelling? Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you.

Sensitive is a false friend Phil.

Drmanu You've misread Anton's answer, and your disagree is wrong. He doesn't say 'sensible'.
Bashiqa Nov 9, 2023:
@ Asker If your first attempt does not find anything then try ipenem; medication.
google will usually propose something very close to the misspelling and with the contaxt you have, you should be able to find the answer.

sensitive/susceptible to penems in high concentrations

Note the plural, it denotes a whole group of antibiotics known as penems. Some of these also have an "i" preceding the suffix: imipenem, doripenem, panipenem, ritipenem. To be more precise, these four actually belong to two related drug families: penems and carbapenems, so you may want to write "penems/carbapenems" instead of just "penems".
The usual pathogens targeted by these antibiotics are Pseudomonas spp.

neutral philgoddard : This would explain why it's 'ipenèmes' in the plural, but I don't understand your explanation and you haven't given references. Do you mean it's a typo for 'pénèmes'?//. And you clearly don't know what 'typo' means. There's no need to be so rude.

It's a misspelling rather than a typo. Sorry to be blunt, but you don't understand the explanations precisely because you don't know medicine in general and pharmacology in particular.
disagree Drmanu49 : Certainly not sensitive which is a false friend.

"sensitive" and "susceptible" in this context are interchangeable

Imipenem belongs to the carbapenem family so it either means susceptible to carbapenems or to imipenem.
