Spanish term

prueba de síntesis

It sounds like they are saying that if the student has taken the course before, they don't need to do all the exams again, but just a sort of "summary" test/exam. Is there a better way of saying that, since I'm not finding any hits for those terms? Thanks!

@eliza I am not a moderator but you can use the proposal you want, you just approve the answer and after edit the entry :)

I wonder indeed if the challenge (or exemption) exam is the equivalence, as it seems to be something not for repeaters, which is the clear sense in most cases in the found reference. And in the final course test, which is a "convocatoria extraordinaria" we would have to confirm if it takes place after a first one ("ordinaria", repeaters again then) or not.

Strange when it says "fin de estudios" (suggesting a global test) but then refers to previous lective year.

In which case you can think in challenge/exemption? When you are new student or you change your faculty/university. For repeaters or a final test, I don't think so.

I think "challenge exam" proposed as Option B by Darius below is what they are talking about. I'm getting plenty of hits for that on Google, esp. from US colleges:

e.g. from Austin Community College:

"If you feel your background, education, and experience provide sufficient knowledge in a subject area, you may take a course challenge exam. Earning credit through challenge examinations is equivalent to passing a cumulative, end-of-the-term examination."

In the Spanish text it is referring precisely to a student who, due to having taken the course before, but not passed it for whatever reason (absence, illness, not turning in final assignment, etc.) can take an exam to prove she/he has that knowledge without having to retake the entire course and sit the end-of-year examinations for it.

Another US state college states: "Challenge Exams (Credit for Prior Learning)"... are "designed to assess your knowledge of the learning outcomes of a particular course."
--i.e. word for word what my ES text says: "permite la evaluación de los resultados de aprendizaje previstos..."

...But no one has proposed it as a term in proz so as to select it (except as an option B to another answer). :)

a summary test or exam

https://www.uab.cat/web/estudios/grado/informacion-academica...

Saludos

Could work too but the idea of synthesis is not explicit.

exemption exam

https://students.business.columbia.edu/records-registration/...

We are strong believers in the value of our core curriculum. However, we recognize that many of our students have considerable background in certain areas of our academic program, and we wish to grant them the flexibility to take additional electives in place of fixed core courses whose content they have already mastered. Such mastery is determined by passing an exemption exam, which is comparable to a final exam in a given subject.

Option 2 CHALLENGE EXAM

Challenge Exams
Some university requirements can be fulfilled through Exemption or Challenge Exams. Challenge Exams carry credit and a grade, while Exemption Exams only fill a requirement.

Recap exam

I have found this:

Madhyamik board schools will have the liberty to test their students in other subjects as well. Those failing in these recap tests will be made to appear in remedial examinations.
The recap examinations, known as baseline surveys in the board’s jargon, will be designed to test whether students have acquired a proper concept of subjects they studied in the previous class ...

evaluation test

The answer could well lie in the question: '...permite la evaluación de los resultados de aprendizaje...'
Example sentence:

Evaluation Test means a written test on general information you should have retained during each period of your apprenticeship.

summative evaluation

A Summative Evaluation occurs at the end of an evaluation cycle and provides feedback that informs an educator’s practice, showing where s/he stands relative to standards and goals, and what s/he can work on next.
