Øvelsen var som ansvarlig leder i en virksomhed at få overblik; hidtil da havde han alene brudstykker. Øvelsen var så at sige at ”tage tingene ud af xxx's hjerne”, dvs. ”hvem har sagt hvad til hvem”. Desuden: hvad nu , hvis yyy var indblandet ?

Practice

'Øvelse' can be translated into, inter alia, Practice or Exercise. But, exercise is usually in respect of gymnastics, military, musical instruments (piano, for instance), etc. But, in the present context, 'practice' will be the most appropriate translation.

The idea of the training

Lidt længere forslag, da jeg synes, det er lidt svært at ramme ordet 'øvelse' præcist med et tilsvarende engelsk.
Øvelse har jo fået en ny betydning i de senere år, som det bruges her.
