Thanks Chris, here's some context I hadn't come across the other day "Nærværende XXX er et forudsætningsprojekt for udrulningen og opfyldelsen af XXX." I'm not happy with 'preconditional project' either, as I've also come across 'nationale forudsætningsprojekter' in my research. Such a translation into English would be completely wrong. Thanks for the suggestion, perhaps you should post it?

I think preconditional project is misleading. It sounds like a lazy fudge to me. Remember most Danish institutions use Danish translators. Without context, I would assume something like a feasibility study.

Just to clear this up, I see that the Agency for Digitisation uses 'preconditional projects' hidden deeply on one of their web pages, so I guess this must be the correct option. Thanks for putting me on the right track anyway :)

Interesting Interesting they'd use that in the meaning of business case. It's not really the right meaning in Danish. I can only find 30 Google hits, so it seems to be a fringe term. I'm not aware of any correct Danish term for business case, so in a translation I would leave the English term in Danish, which is also what the Danish Wikipedia page does.

I see Right, I see. I would have thought the necessary parts could be anonymised, but only you know that. As Rob suggested, it would probably be something with "prerequisite" plan or project, referring to a project that is necessary for something else, but it could also be a project that is intended to find out what the prerequisites are for something. You'll have to find the most appropriate wording based on the context. Sometimes you have to find the meaning of compound nouns in Germanic languages by looking up each component separately.
