the 'universal genius' in a company
The client has used the expression about the director's right-hand man, who has helped to build up the firm and knows every nook and cranny, so he solves any problem...
I can't use 'Girl Friday' as the dictionary sugests (I hate the expression anyway!) - and Universal Genius seems a little pompous, though it might do.
Thanks for any good suggestions!

Mentioning the name of the person in question and adding above attribute before or after the name would work, I believe. Good luck!

Comment: "Thanks, this was it!
Thanks to everyone - I liked the others too, and I wish everyone could have some points. But this fitted perfectly for the man who knows all the answers and seems to be in several places at once when needed.
The client thought so too!"

Endnu en idé, så du har noget mere at arbejde videre på - det dækker ganske vist ikke helt det samme som "blæksprutte" og har sikkert også nogle andre konnotationer, men ud fra din forklaring at dømme passer det måske alligevel...
