Reading this might help you make a decision. Different countries and their point systems are mentioned. Denmark is mentioned, and it is not at all a "clip" as such but merely a point system as a notation in a person's driving record as it is here in the US, "a ticketing system"
Diarmuid Kennan (asker) Mar 5, 2007:
Thanks Blangsted. I know the 'klippekort' system well, I use them all the time. (I live in Copenhagen). Ten clips on each ticket and the machine cuts off one and stamps the time on the card. However, there is no element of punishment involved. I was hoping for a term that included the element of punishment. For example, if every time you break the speed limit, talk on your mobile while driving etc. the police stop you and cut one corner off your driving licence and the fifth time you are automatically banned from driving for 3 years and must take a new test, that is obviously a very different concept. Maybe I'm just being awkward. I think I'll try sleeping on it ;-)
Suzanne Blangsted (X) Mar 5, 2007:
Example: The Danish railroad ticket validation system is a punch card system. A corner of the ticket is clipped off validating the ticket. A similar system is probably used in your example. My ticket, when in Denmark last summer, I forgot to get it validated before getting on the train, the ticket was punched by the conductor.

The problem with the 2 proposals is that they don't include the element of sanctions. The idea is that lorry drivers who violate the (animal welfare) regulations, will have part of their licence 'clipped off' and may loose their licence completely. I know that a similar system used in Ireland for motorists who speed etc. is called the 'penalty points system'

agree Paul Cohen : Sounds good to me. The term "klippekort" is used quite a lot in Greenland as well, for example, to regulate government-sponsored business consulting, although I doubt that an actual "card" is issued.

Thank you. When I worked in Greenland in 1960, we used "the honor system".

Ticket-Card Scheme

In another EU context this term is used, but you are right it is a sort of point score system
