Are they referring to the display of goods in the sales outlets or am I missing a basic marekting term ?

That's what I'd translate it as and it's also whats in the dictionary.

agree Dan Schioenning Larsen : I agree with this. To me 'range' has the meaning of different products in the same category, where as assortment indicates different categories of drugs.

basic range

Don't they mean a basic range of goods, i.e. paracetamol, asprin, cough mixture etc etc. The things that you would expect to be able to find anywhere without needing a prescription...

agree farmor : I wouldn't go as far as to suggest that 'basic assortment' is incorrect, merely that 'basic range' is a better choice.
