Danish term

daksstrop

Danish to English Tech/Engineering Textiles / Clothing / Fashion relates to tailoring men's trousers
The whole text is set up in short directions for sewing, and unfortunately the drawings are not available... The context simply gives stitch length etc. and is not really helpful.

A 'daksstrop' (dækstrop???) is a narrow double strip of fabric, with trim stitching and has a horizontal buttonhole at the end, according to the instructions.

Could it be the loop or tab for buttoning back pockets?
These are (civilian) uniform trousers.

All help much appreciated!

Discussion

Rebecca Barath Jan 29, 2006:
Hei, are they on the inside or outside? And how long are they?
Christine Andersen (asker) Jan 28, 2006:
There are 2 'daksknapper' sewn on each side of the waistband (linning) - so the 'stropper' are probably not pocket tabs...

Are they for attaching braces (suspenders) ??

Daks Strap

or Pants (tightening) Strap or Waist Strap

My son's pants have two button holes on the inside lining. There is two elastic straps with button holes in them that attaches to the buttons to tighten the pants around the waist. There are two straps one for each button.

Daks or Dacks is a colloquial English/Australian term for mens pants.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This is really brilliant! I knew about Daks as a term for trousers (US pants) ... or a firm that makes them, but had no idea what this 'daksstrop' could be. Two profesional tailors I have asked have never heard the term used in Danish. But it tallies with a remark that the buttons must be placed so that the flat measurement is the nominal size measurement (which I simply could not understand). I'm calling it a Daks waist adjustment strap in the translation."
