English term

deNaibs

English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
"A study has been completed that points to MEMS or micro-electro-mechanical systems as a promising technology for our electronics sector. MEMS-type deNaibs are already present in our daily lives - for example, as the car crash sensors that activate air bags - and the diversity of MEMS applications means rich opportunities for a wide range of new technology companies."

What is/are deNaibs? I cannot find it anywhere on the Internet. And is this a plural of deNaib (whatever a deNaib is...)?

Thanks.

idler (X) Sep 30, 2004:
I don't think deNaibs should be a specific device, as it seems to appear always in plural form and modified by MEMS-type.
idler (X) Sep 30, 2004:
How about models?

MEMS-type deNaibs(models) are already present in our daily lives
Our present foundry capacity and processes are a good fit for MEMS deNaibs(models)
Ernesto de Lara Sep 30, 2004:
Then it should be a new device known by a Company or researcher. There is not trace for this in the internet, reliable or not. The foll. ref. points to the main manufacturer for crach sensors in the US (nothing)

Hi, Ernesto. Thanks for your suggestion. I might use it if I don't get a better solution. But there is no mistake. It appears again further down the document: "Our present foundry capacity and processes are a good fit for MEMS deNaibs."
Non-ProZ.com Sep 30, 2004:
Hi, Idler. Appreciate your comments, but how could tribal leaders be relevant to car crash sensors that activate air bags?

It looks to be a mistake.
Even the specialized website refered below has nothing about these mysterious word. I used several power search tools in my computer to explore the internet and got nothing. Using devices instead deNaibs makes sense with everything.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "You know what? You were right - it is a mistake and the actual word IS device. The coordinator of this very large translation assignment had used the 'replaced all' function in MSWord to replace 'vice' (as in vice president) for 'Naib' (which is 'vice' in Malay, job title hence the caps) without realising that this affected the words 'device' too. So sorry, Ernesto and Idler for the trouble and thank you so much for offering your suggestions."

But there must be some connection between them,
as the word is so rare to find

Obviously denaibs refer to devices such as car crash sensors, and the name might denote certain quality of such devices. The connection between such devices and tribe leaders might be analogic, or of a random one. I have not quite figured it out.

Wild Association:)

As naibs are representatives of tribes, is it possible that denaibs mean representatives/examples?
