German term
auf etwas selektieren
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Computers (general)
Databases/Telemedicine
Context:
"InstanceUID der Studie, auf die selektiert werden soll."
My problem here is with "auf die selektiert werden soll", what does "auf etwas selektieren" mean in this context? I'm quite sure there is no dialog or other form of user interface on which you can perform a selection here.

used as the index, used as the selection criteria
As this has to do with databases and the InstanzUID (as in User ID) is the item in question, you might find this to be helpful.

: Your answer sounds good - might be right depending on context, but shouldn't it be singular - criterion?

Of course, it should be singular. Too early and no coffee at the time.

: as in "allocated/assigned/to or "should be indexed in", and you probably mean criterion. :)

UID is usually a unique number identifying a record, so you would say that you are using this item as the index.

The general context is Databases/Telemedicine.
The specific context is the sentence given above, which is only preceded by the parameter to which it refers, selectedStudy, and followed by the next parameter in a bulleted list of the database parameters.
