Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Sep 4, 2002:
Hi could it be
authorship undetermined ?
Non-ProZ.com Sep 3, 2002:
Elisabeth Thanks. But in the context, it's ohne Verfasser.
Non-ProZ.com Sep 3, 2002:
AutoTiger I was thinking of that - it's not that the author is unknown, it's a brochure by a big chemical company without an author i.e. hundreds of authors. Would you still say anon?

1 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "o.V. - ohne Verfasser. This seems to be quite a standard abbrev. in German, found it even in Duden Wörterbuch der Abkürzungen. Thanks to everyone who had a go. I've decided to use 'authorship undetermined', no abbreviation. 1 point to Auto_Tiger for being the first. Should anyone still have a better idea, please let me know. disagree Armorel Young : w.a. wouldn't be generally understood, whereas anon. would be

no author

cannot find any sign of an abbreviation used.
(by the way, alternative:

o. V.= ohne Verlagsangabe = no publisher = sans éditeur.

Greetings,

Nikolaus
Peer comment(s):

agree Steffen Walter : "no author" without abbreviation; if no author is known, there is also the alternative to only cite book title, publisher, year of publication etc.

author unknown

I've also seen this expression used occasionally (unabbreviated). I think it can cover situations where multiple uncredited authors are involved, not only cases of genuine mystery!
