And dictionaries usually translate Konstruktion as design, but the department understandably translates it as engineering design.

I've prefaced design with engineering to make the 'official' title 'clearer', rather than insert 'processing' plastics (Kunstoffverarbeitung in the first example sentence).
Note - rather than 'plastic machines', the journalistic technique and trick I once learned of translating Maschinen as 'machinery'.

: 'Chair' in your second example sentence is a mistranslation. As it goes on to say, it's an institution.
