German term

ve Einzelhandel

German to English Bus/Financial Retail
On a CV, and of little or no relevance to the current work of the individual. This is the entire entry for the particular role:

Ausbildung zum Wirtschaftskaufmann im Wismut-Handel, ve Einzelhandel Aue, Organisation Betriebsdienstleistungen

Searching brings me nothing apart from the use of 've' instead of 'v' in court cases, or either Verkaufseinheit or Verpackungseinheit, but these don't seem to fit here (happy to be corrected if they do).

Alternatively it could be 'vertical retail' but that's quite a wild guess - if nothing comes up I'll just ignore it, I suppose.

Thanks for any help

ve = volkseigen

Research indicates that the author lived and worked in the former DDR / Eastern Germany. "Volkseigen" means that this company was a combine at this time.

VE is part of the company name and should be left untranslated.

I would write:

VE Einzelhandel Aue (retailer combine Aue)

Me neither. :-) I found it on Wikipedia.

Oh - forgot. The author has his CV online, so we got lucky.
Please have a great day! :-)
Note from asker:
Thanks Nicole, that's really helpful :) I'd never have worked out the East German connection
I knew where it was of course, but that part of my brain just wasn't engaged in terms of the impllications. Something else for me to bear in mind in future! Thanks again, and also to Kim for 'state-owned' :)

agree Colin Rowe : Like the good ol' VEB Verlag Technik dictionaries from the DDR that are still knocking around.
