German term

das mich so hinkriegt

German to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Hello everyone!

The phrase is part of a lecture in Social Science. I couldn't find the exact meaning and I'm asking for help;
Here is the text:

Thanks in advance!

Kristina Cosumano (X) Sep 17, 2015:
Another possibility is that it's a way of saying, that it "repairs" me, or that it makes me whole again, fulfils me. Not usually used in the context but that sounds like the jist of it.
Danik 2014 Sep 15, 2015:
Thomas Pfann Sep 15, 2015:
Andrea Muller hat es oben sehr schön beschrieben: „that the implanted hard disk/chip has managed to switch on some permanent 'I am in love mode' in that person, making them feel permanently in love.

Horst Huber (X) Sep 15, 2015:
Gets me fixed, gets me fixed right up?
oa_xxx (X) Sep 14, 2015:
As much as its possible to know whats meant I feel none of the answers quite get it, something much more vague and colloquial would be safer! Something with "gets" but am not too sure yet...just... that really gets me, or that gets me like that - badly and awkwardly phrased like the original.
Horst Huber (X) Sep 14, 2015:
With Andrea Muller "Hinkriegen" would be something like getting it/me "right". "So hinkriegt" might mean something like "just so", "just the way I want to be" or "should be".
Daniel Arnold (X) Sep 13, 2015:
that draws me in wäre auch eine Möglichkeit. Glad I dont have to translate this ;-)
Andrea Graves Sep 13, 2015:
Given the context is discussing how an attitude or feeling about something can more or less overtake someone - in the sense of control of actively submitting, I would go with the first suggestion -- "that has such control over me" but perhaps using words that are just a little less strong. Perhaps, "that grips me" or "that encompasses me"
Andrea Muller (X) Sep 13, 2015:
I understand 'hinkriegen' as something much more neutral than in answers suggested below.
Etwas hinkriegen normally means to manage to do something. You would say 'die werden mich schon wieder hinkriegen' if you are sick in hospital and expect that the doctors will cure you.
I think here it just means something like 'so it would set me up that way', and that the implanted hard disk/chip has managed to switch on some permanent 'I am in love mode' in that person, making them feel permanently in love as explained by Thomas.
Thomas Pfann Sep 13, 2015:
'Verliebt sein' bezieht sich nicht auf das 'Neue und Irre' – it's not about falling in love with that new idea, but this new invention will rewire my brain and make me feel in love forever (not with it but with women/men/life/whatever). It will manipulate me somehow to feel in love (with whatever I want to be in love).

To get the gist of it, I think, it's important to watch the video and listen to the guy (as hard as it may be – I certainly didn't understand all of this rambling).

Explanation of what it is is actually in English http://www.allreadable.com/i/about.html
Danik 2014 Sep 12, 2015:
Maybe it's already a translation from another language.

This seems to be the context.. http://de.allreadable.com/db5bMTt

There’s one group that says ‘Let’s do something novel, outrageous here; something that makes me fall in love with it each time because it always gets my juices going…"

".. dass das mich so hinkriegt.." seems to be used akin to the example below:

"The day you make your first dollar online you must email me and tell me all about. That’s the kind of stuff that really gets my juices going."

To me, most of the other suggestions including those in the discussion box sound like decent explanations but the language is either not idiomatic or current enough (outdated) to fit the style used in this talk.
