English to Spanish: The Myth of Balder. A Study in Comparative Mythology/El mito de Balder.
Source text - English Since the beginning of this century great progress has made in the solution of the problems connected with the Old Teutonic Balder Myth, thanks in part to the anthropological method as it was applied to the tradition of Balder by Sir J. G. Frazer y F. Kauffmann. The English scholar sees in Balder a vegetation demon and the oak spirit exclusively. Kauffmann, while adopting Frazer´s theory that the myth of the god´s death is based upon the märchen motif of the extraneous soul, further elaborated the thesis of the English folklorist and pointed out that the Balder Myth grew out of the Balder Rite, which was nothing but the sacrifice of the Teutonic king, a piacular sacrifice, for the purpose of propitiating the chthonic powers and of assuring the well-being of the community.
English to Spanish: Groundwell Ridge Villa Analysis Project PR 3641/ Proyecto de análisis de la villa de Groundwell Ridge (Pr 3641) Detailed field: Archaeology
Source text - English One of the most fundamental elements for the understanding of any archaeological site must be the pottery finds, and Groundwell Ridge was no exception. As a result of the site´s heavy disturbance by early stone robbers and the later attempted road construction, pottery was one of the first ways that we could ‘spot-date’ some of the elements of the building. Once we had a basic chronology for the site, educated guesses could be made about the phasing of the structure. A large variety of potter was recovered from the site of all types and of all dates within the Roman Period. The pottery can be initially divided into two basic types which are, Finewares and Coarsewares. Finewares include the well known red hued Samian Ware wich was the ‘best’ pottery for use for serving and on the table. The second category is the Coarsewares which were the everyday pottery of the non-villa owning populace or in the context of a villa, probably the pottery that would have been used for food preparation, cooking, or storage.
