Source text - Japanese
Translation - English Once upon a time, there lived a monk in a mountain temple, in a certain village. One day, a lone traveller arrived at the temple, asking the monk if he could stay the night.
"Ah, please, make yourself at home. You must have gone through a lot on your journey. I would love to hear about it, if it’s not too much to ask for."
"It was nothing that exciting, really. I used to serve as a rower on a boat. One day, we were attacked by pirates, and I was thrown overboard, but I managed to narrowly escape death. I had to swim for my life to the shore."
Upon hearing this, the monk pondered for a moment, and then he, too, told his own story, of how he once was a pirate.

Translation education
Master's degree - University of Central Lancashire
I studied Japanese-English translation and interpreting in the UK and was granted my Master of Arts degree at the University of Central Lancashire.
I then studied at the Sapporo Language Center, a Japanese language school based in Sapporo, for 1.5 years and passed the JLPT N2 exam due to their guidance.
I am currently looking for opportunities to put my knowledge to use and gain experience as a freelance translator.
