electives / minor / certificate program
Also consider the fact that the process to becoming a teacher is probably completely different.... for example in Canada, you must first do a full university degree with a double major or major/minor (you need 2 'teachables' - in this person's case math and history'), only after this you apply to teacher's college and do another year of school to become a certified teacher.
'alongside my courses in math and history, I have taken 3 electives in educational theory.'
York University's Graduate Diploma in German & European Studies is open to graduate students who are enrolled in an M.A. or Ph.D. program in fields such as International Business, Economics, Education,....

hense my example using electives in 'educational theory'. That is 'pädagogisch'. Or 'educational science', they are both sometimes used, or simply 'pedagogics'

Kim Metzger
: Based on the excellent article provided by Johanna, I would tend towards "electives in educational theory."

"They found that the effect of teachers' certification exceeded those of a content major in the field, suggesting that what licensed teachers learn in the pedagogical portion of their training adds to what they gain from a strong subject matter background:"

Thus, I would say this person studied educational theory/principles rather than methods and techniques of teaching.
"In the United States, “pedagogy” has a very narrow meaning. If it is used at all, it usually refers to the techniques or methods of teaching which are applied in formal educational institutions. Graduate students enroll in education courses, rather than courses in pedagogy."
I would thus also not use "pedagogy" in this situation.
