Source text - English It's been a year since we are living in a new reality, and it is so strange to recall the last travels before the borders closed: without tests, masks, gel, thermometers and quarantine. Who could think that things would turn this way when the virus had just let itself be noticed in faraway China?
In January we were rambling through the streets of San Francisco, but in March we found ourselves in isolation for the first time and for two long months. It is hard to believe now that in summer we could dine in a restaurant and in December - to leave the EU with no serious reason. I forgot the time when I was out of home after 6 pm without my dog, and my face doesn't remember how it feels like to be made up.
Before the pandemic we worked a lot and entertained ourselves even more, the rhythm of life was speeding up. We were degustating dishes by talented chefs, going to opera and to a football stadium, traveled around Champagne and Thailand. It was more and more difficult to impress us, and active and rich leisure became a routine.
Pandemic arranged everything back to order. It opened our eyes and taught us to appreciate simple things.
I am no different than others and also want to find myself again in a world which resembles the one where we used to live just a little bit more. But I understand that it is impossible as long as people keep falling ill, intensive care units keep being full and doctors keep working to the point of exhaustion. I also understand that a team of healthcare workers, scientists and politicians faces a very morally challenging decision every day, trying to safe people's lives as well as the country's economy, choosing the lesser evil.
I know that it is not a very popular opinion, because a common practice is to criticize the government. That is why it is important to express this opinion, to let it be heard - and most importantly by those who share it.
Translation - Russian Уже год как мы живём в новой реальности, и потому так странно сейчас вспоминать последние путешествия перед закрытием границ: без тестов, масок, геля, термометров и карантина. Кто же мог подумать, что всё будет так, когда вирус только дал о себе знать в далёком Китае?
Ещё в январе мы с беззаботно гуляли по Сан-Франциско, а уже в марте в первый раз оказались в полной изоляции на целых два месяца. Даже не верится, что ещё летом можно было поужинать в ресторане, а в декабре - улететь из ЕС без уважительной причины. Я уже забыла, когда бывала на улице после 6 вечера без собаки, а моё лицо не помнит, что такое декоративная косметика.
До пандемии мы много работали и ещё больше отдыхали, ритм жизни ускорялся. Мы дегустировали блюда от талантливых шеф-поваров, ходили в оперу и на футбол, путешествовали по Шампани и Таиланду. Нас уже сложно было чем-то удивить, и насыщенный досуг тоже становился рутиной.
Пандемия же всё расставила на свои места. Она раскрыла наши глаза и заново научила радоваться простым вещам. Мне, как и многим, хочется поскорее оказаться в мире, хоть чуточку более похожем на тот, в котором мы жили раньше. Но я понимаю, что это невозможно, пока люди продолжают болеть, пока переполнены реанимации, а врачи работают на износ. Я также понимаю, что команда из медиков, учёных и политиков каждый день стоит перед очень непростым моральным решением, пытаясь сохранить как жизни людей, так и экономику страны, выбирая меньшее из зол.
Я знаю, что это непопулярная позиция, ведь власть принято критиковать. Тем важнее выразить эту позицию, дать ей быть услышанной - и в первую очередь теми, кто её разделяет.

I was born
and raised in Belarus. There I acquired a degree in Translation and Intercultural
communications. Later I got a Master’s degree in English Linguistics and Literature
at KU Leuven (Belgium). I started working as a translator and interpreter when
I was still a student in Belarus. Since then I had an opportunity to try myself
in different areas of expertise.
My native
language is Russian, but since childhood I have been also speaking
Belarusian, which is used as a language of instruction in schools. At the age
of 12 I started learning Italian and had an opportunity to improve my skills at
university and during my semester abroad. I have been learning English since I
was 6 and it has become my second working language. I have been living in France
since 2016. This country became my second home and I had an honor to receive its
citizenship.
