Source text - Russian Море всегда тянуло человека к себе, может быть даже больше, чем небо. Мировой океан является местом обитания огромного количества растений, рыб, морских животных, в том числе млекопитающих.
Различают несколько зон жизни океана. Наиболее населена верхняя толща воды, глубиной до 300 метров, так как это наиболее освещенная часть. Зона на глубине от 300 до 1000 метров носит названия области полумрака. На глубине свыше 1000 метров царит абсолютная тьма и сильный холод, здесь нет растений. Давление на больших глубинах очень велико, так на глубине 3800 м давление составляет 400 кг/см 3 , а на глубине 10900 м – уже 7250 кг/см 3 .
Обитатели морских глубин по-разному приспособились к этим трудным условиям.
Единственный источник пищи глубоководных животных – трупы обитателей верхней части океана и бактерии. У них глаза либо отсутствуют, либо достигают высокой степени развития: иногда они огромных размеров, часто помещаются на боковых выростах – стебельках – или телескопические, снабженные системой линз. Так, глаза рыбы целаканта имеют форму цилиндра, это позволяет ей видеть отдаленные объекты. Пасть у этой рыбы обращена вверх, так как она заглатывает пищу, которая опускается из верхних слоев океана. Другое ее название – рыба-топор, так как особая форма ее серебристого тела напоминает топор.
У слепых форм для разыскивания добычи есть особые длинные придатки тела – чувствительные щупальца. Многие организмы имеют сложные органы свечения, привлекающие добычу. Например, у рыбы-гадюки в пасти и на теле имеются светящиеся точки, которые выполняют роль приманки. Этим названием рыба-гадюка обязана своим длинным иглообразным зубам и змеевидному телу. Атакуя добычу, она широко раскрывает челюсти, и передний, похожий на копье зуб поражает жертву. Днем рыба-гадюка обитает на больших глубинах – 1000 – 2800 м, а ночью поднимается к поверхности на глубину всего лишь 50 м.
Наибольшая глубина, на которой была обнаружена рыба – 10911м. Это особая плоская рыба – морской язык.
Translation - English The sea has always attracted man, perhaps even more so than the sky. The world’s ocean is an area inhabited by a great number of plants, fish and marine animals including mammals.
The ocean can be divided into several zones of ocean life. The most populated part of water is where the water is clearest. It is known as the upper thick layer and stretches 300 metres deep. The zone at the depth between 300 and 1000 metres is called the region of semi-darkness. No plants live at depths of over 1000 metres because there is complete darkness and intense cold. The pressure is very strong the greater the depth. At a depth of 3800 metres the pressure is 400 kg/cm3 and at a depth of 10900 metres it is already 7250 kg/cm3.
Inhabitants of the deep sea have adapted differently to difficult circumstances.
The only sources of food for deep-sea dwelling creatures are carcasses of inhabitants of the upper parts of the ocean and bacteria. Their eyes are often absent or reach a high degree of development. Sometimes they are very big and are often located on lateral arms or are equipped with telescopic lens systems. The eye of the Coelacanth is cylindrical which allows it to see objects far away. The mouth of this fish is pointed upwards so that it can swallow food that has come from the upper parts of the ocean. The Coelacanth’s other name is the axe fish because of its peculiar shape and because its silvery body looks like an axe.
For hunting prey, blind species use a particularly long appendage of the body called the sensory antenna. Many organisms emit light using multiple organs to attract prey. For example, there are points that light up in the mouth and on the body of the viperfish. They are called viperfish because of their long needle shaped teeth and their snake-like body. When attacking the prey it opens its jaws wide and from its mouth the tooth strikes the victim like a spear. By day the viperfish inhabits great depths of 1000 metres to 2800 metres but at night rises to the surface to depths of around 50 metres.
The greatest depth inhabited by fish is at 10911 metres. This is the peculiar flat fish known as the sole.
