The Institut Català del Sòl (Catalan Land Institute) was created on December 16th, 1980 in accordance with the 4/80 Act of the Catalan Parliament as an autonomous organisation of the Departament de Política Territorial i Obres Públiques de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Territorial and Public Works Department of the autonomous government of Catalunya). The 4/2000 Act of May 26th alters the legal regulations of the Institut Català del Sòl, which becomes a body of the public law that adapts its activities to the private law.
