will reduce the amount of the claim/entitlement

The full sentence would read "any joint culpability on the part of the client (or whatevert you are calling him) will be taken into consideration and will reduce the amount of the claim/entitlement" (depending on what Anspruch is here)
Note from asker:
Thanks a million, mine was almost the same, I especially liked the "will be taken into consideration" part, because mine went: "shall be considered" (which doesn't quite do the thing). Regards, Heike

by abatement of entitlement

Mitverschulden is likely to be contributory negligence here. It will factored in or taken into account by abatement of any claim or remedy available: in the UK, the blame will be apportioned, usually in reduction of any damages payable.
