Von April bis Dezember findet ein Flohmarkt statt, der liebevoll "Gänggelimarkt" genannt wird.

Was bedeutet "Gänggeli"? Und warum ist das eine liebevolle Bezeichnung? Ich benötige nicht unbedingt das englische Äquivalent dazu, eine hochdeutsche Entsprechung würde mir wahrscheinlich auch schon weiterhelfen. Danke!

PS: Habe mal "Slang" als Kategorie ausgewählt, denn "Schweizerdeutsch" gibt es noch nicht :)

G�nggelis are small baby and kid toys and such, and the fact, that is is "lovingly called" that has no doubt to do with the children related occasion.
FLEAMARKET comes as close to close to the meaning as anything that I see in the proposals.

Klingt logisch: wenn man "f�r etwas viel Zeit verwendet" (s.u.); "tr�delt" man auch, jedenfalls bei uns in der Gegend. Also "Tr�delmarkt".

gänggele ist ein Verb das "etwas nutzloses tun" bedeutet.
Eine Zusammensetzung mit "Gänggeli-" wird meistens für kleine, wertlose und bunt zusammengewürfelte Gegenstände verwendet

Oops. Das war doppelt gemoppelt.

Liebevoll ist es wahrscheinlich, weil dieser Begriff etwas angestaubt antiquiert wirkt und wegen dem Schweizer Diminutiv auf -li (es gibt eben nicht nur die Fränkli :-)

and if you look in more detail into the web site, you will find
a Bernese Schwyzerdütsch version plus a German translation for the
Gänggeli expression which, incidentally, includes such less friendly
meanings as Gänggelibueb i.e. a useless boy or even useless man.

correction: ... meanings such as Gänggelibueb. Come to think of it, umenandgänggele is the Swiss equivalent of \"to hang out\" - the known and rather useless occupation
