Bio
I am a native Portuguese professional, and I provide translation services from English into Portuguese (Brazilian and European) and perform linguistic adaptation from Portuguese (Brazil) into Portuguese (Portugal). I have now 3 years of professional experience in these pairs. I perform freelance, independent work.
I hold a MSc (Master of Science) degree in Applied Biology granted by Universidade do Minho at Braga, Portugal. I have a perfect command of several scientific areas, including: biology, medicine, pharmacology, genetics, microbiology, evolution, biochemistry, and science in general.
In high school, I finished all linguistic disciplines with an A+.
Due to my scientific background I hold wide experience in the research field, which, I believe, is *the* major skill required for quality translation nowadays. Through such skills, I always find the way encounter the correct term, in the right context, and I never, ever, give up on a term/expression.
I presently collaborate with a couple of renowned translation agencies, both outside and inside Portugal. As an example, Corporate Translations Inc., a provider of superior translation and linguistic validation solutions for global life science companies, is ISO 9001:2008 and EN 15038:2006 certificated.
Furthermore, during the last three years, I have proofread well over 400 000 words, working closely as a team with a professional translator. I proofread all his work, covering wildly different (but technical) areas, ranging from IT to industry. With him I have proofread projects for major companies.
I also do voluntary work with TED Talks, Khan Academy, and Lifeboat Foundation (and more to come). Being world-changers, these are very challenging projects.
Most importantly, I have noticed that nowadays speed and reliability are major pluses in our industry and, subsequently I will never miss a dead-line that I find acceptable. Do keep in mind that a quality work is not a synonym of speed work. So, and take it as an advice, don't try to worsen a potential excellent work by imposing unreal dead-lines or proposing rates that do not dignify the quality work being performed nor allow a basis for the translator's subsistence. You will hardly receive a quality final product, given those conditions. For a quality translation to be executed, one must employ a good amount of time to integrate concepts, understand and gather information, research expressions and terms and then, perform the alchemy which is translation, trans-creation, reviewing/editing and, at a lesser extent, proofing. Nevertheless, I'm capable of working under stress and of delivering on time, even under tight dead-lines.
