My name is Birgir Rúnar Davíðsson. I was born in the town of Akureyri, Iceland, in June 1977 and have lived there ever since. I’m married and have two sons, eight and thirteen years old.
I graduated from the language department of Akureyri College (Menntaskólinn á Akureyri) in 1997 with top grades. Self-educated since then, I have placed emphasis on modern US and UK English and translations into Icelandic.
I started working as a part-time translator in 1999, translating books and projects for agencies all over the world, e.g. web pages, computer programs, user manuals, brochures, letters and campaign material. In 2005 I became a full-time freelance translator, working from my home office. I also stopped my constant search for new clients and projects. Now I only work for a few select clients and all my translations are for the entertainment industry; books and subtitling projects.
I have translated over 300 books and countless movies and television shows. I’ve written short stories, plays, poems and hope to publish some of my work in the near future.
I have an excellent understanding of modern US/UK English and culture, something I see lacking in many translations into Icelandic. I’m very thorough, take pride in delivering quality translations and always respect deadlines. |
