I lived in the USA for 8 years. During the period, I obtained me=y bachelor´s degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Before beginning the actual degree program, the university offered as ESL course for international students. I completed one year of that ESL course, which significantly improved my English.
For universities to maintain their university status, they must produce research materials. Therefore, most of the professors´assignments were written papers in English. When I tally the number of pages I wrote, it adds up to more than 200 pages in English. As a result, my grammar and writing skills have become extremely advanced. The proof of this is that many Americans asked me to proofread their papers before submitting them to the professors.
From 2021 to 2022, I lived in Miami. During that time, I volunteered to teach English to Spanish-speaking children at a local Catholic Church.
After returning to Brazil, I started working as an English teacher for an online language school. While teaching for that school, I gained, and continue to gain, a lot of experience in translation. Many students who come to me want to improve their vocabulary. The method I found to work best is to translate texts from English to Portuguese with them. Some more advanced students can even translate more complex texts, which gave me the idea to begin translating the works of Shakespear, known for being the most challenging texts in modern English.
