Source text - English About Avondale: Beautiful Avondale is home to some of the finest wines in South Africa. For over 300 years the vineyards have produced premium grapes, driven by the desire to produce the best wine in the Cape. Located on the slopes of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains outside Paarl, Avondale boasts magnificent views of Paarl Rock, the Berg River Valley and distant Table Mountain. Owned by the Grieve family, their motto "the nature's way" is embodied in every aspect of winemaking. Perfectly balanced and individual, Avondale wines are typically big in structure, full bodied and with an intensity to match the explosive fruit that Paarl is renowned.
Avondale farms in accordance with organic principles, putting the original and natural fungi, bacteria and larger organisms back into the soil, so as to restore it to its natural, pre-agriculture state, thus treating the vines as indigenous plants which deliver the essence of the soil into ripe grapes and wines. One of the first Cape wine producers to obtain Bio-Diversity certification, Avondale actively strives to re-establish indigenous fynbos species among the vineyards and use only indigenous vegetation as wind breakers, for beautification and cover crops. Avondale is also certified as a producer of organic grapes by the international organic accreditation authority Control Union (Skal).
About Black Pearl: Every year South African Airways chooses a premium wine to offer its first class customers. The wine is naturally South African, and for 2006 the choice fell on Black Pearl Wines. Every wine produced at this winery to date has won medals, and owners Lancelot and Martha Nash and daughter Mary-Lou continue to impress the South African wine community. The Black Pearl wine estate lies on a steep hill between Stellenbosh and Paarl, gazing over the flat Cape Plains to the majestic Table Mountain and sea in the hazy distance. On the mountain behind the winery lies a significant amount of the world's remaining Renosterveld, a bush native to only this area and in danger of extinction. As it is a World heritage site, the Nash family are working to protect this piece of floral history from exploitation: it is here from where Gladiolas and Freesia originate. Truly terroir driven, the wines are not irrigated and only cropped and pruned to prevent stressing of the wines, bringing winemaking back to basics and producing some of South Africa’s finest results in viticulture.
Translation - German Über Avondale: Das pittoreske Weingut Avondale beheimatet einige der besten Weine Südafrikas.
