He insisted on getting my address, but declined to give me any details about himself. I found this very fishy, so I Googled his name, and found this thread. Thank heavens for that! Anyway, the text he wanted me to translate was the same you all got - the one about World Peace.

Thank you all. This exchange was helpful for me trying to assess James Neel and his request for an English-Estonian translation of a lengthy article on World Peace which just somehow did not feel right. Recently, another scammer, who called himself Andrew Smith, e-mail address [email protected], contacted me referring to my profile on Proz.com
These people are trying to use a check scam. They are looking for someone who would cash their check for a larger amount of money than the quoted project cost. They would ask the translator to send them the difference. And I would imagine that the check they had sent to the translator would never clear. Beware! ▲ Collapse

This same guy contacted me today asking me to translate into Moldovan an article on obedience he had just copied off Wikipedia. His English was bad and he sounded kind of fishy so I just decided to google his article. I also looked him up on Facebook and found a fake profile. I then found your warnings. I wouldn't have accepted the job anyway but your warnings were a confirmation that I was doing the right thing. His IP address is 172.190.14.118. Thank you!

When I asked him to first send me his full name, address and phone number where he could be reached, he provided me with an address in South Carolina (that I contacted the owner of and found out she is a translator and that he had contacted her too) and a phone number (landline in California) that I never called.
