Hi there. I want to open up a translation agency. Dear Members please guide me how to start? Is ATA certification necessary for that? Basically, Currently I am in Pakistan and want to establish virtual office in US. My major concern is about how to stamp the document to certify a document. Looking forward for your kind replies. Thanks

You need: a) lots of good paying customers, and b) lots of cheap quality translators willing to work at the prices you set for them. -- And US offshore-company, study some links:

Why a virtual office in the US?

Why would you establish a virtual office at all and why in the US? I always thought that a key of success would be to establish a virtual office in the heart of LONDON (because, you know, London = England = heartland of the English language and, hey, it's London calling, which means for your potential translators that they always will sell their services for a best rate because of numerous long-term projects to come from the UK = English and all that stuff, well, we all know how it works etc. )

'Major concern'

I wish that were my 'major concern'. A 'major concern' with 'opening up an agency' would be finding/getting corporate clients from the affluent West (supposing you won't be serving Pakistani clients much seeing as you're asking about ATA certification), I would've thought. If I knew how to do that, I'd open a London agency in a heartbeat. To hell with freelancers and bottom-feeders!!!
