I have bought a CD of gospel music and one of the songs has a part in what we believe is an African language - but which one?

But... If the text you copied came with this spelling, then it looks like the European language of reference was Portuguese (use of 'c', 'qu', probably 'z' too; 'y' not used...). So, if we initially assume it to be a language of a country that was formerly a Portuguese colony, that might help to narrow down the search.

Hi Paul,
Do I understand you right if this is just your interpretation of the words sung?
Or are the lyrics printed on the CD? I was just wondering if the spelling is correct or not.
Do you have any more info about the CD: which record company, producer, song names etc? In that case it's easier to look up the recording details.

You might be right, Alan!
I was travelling around Angola for a month, and participated in some Catholic masses. It sounds vaguely familiar, although I don't speak a word of either Kimbundu or Umbundu.
On the other side, it's highly unlikely that a CD was produced in these languages...
I agree with Konrad that Southern Africa is also a good guess (proximity to Mozambique?).
But I could be way off here. It's very hard to identify without listening to the pronounciation.
Why don't you rip an MP3 of the song and upload it at yousendit.com or a similar service?!

I recently installed language recognition software "Polyglot 3000". I put this through it and the verdict was:
Language recognition: Kangali.
Recognition accuracy 13% (very bad).
Similar languages: Kwara'ae, Luvale.

Inspector Clouseau rides again. This was much easier than some scribblings a translation agency in the UK was desperate to identify in terms of language. They had already ruled out most Far Eastern languages.
They eventually e-mailed me that 3-page PDF. I discovered that it was handwritten Hebrew, but the smart individual who scanned it went to the trouble of both mirroring the image and rotating it upside down.
This smart cryptography reminds me of another smart guy who puts confidential documents in an anvelope before passing them through the fax machine.

Paul, can you verify one more thing: is it the pastor himself singing this, or other people?
Since you live in Brazil yourself, I'm sure you can distinguish Portuguese and other colloquial/dialects down there, so they can be excluded from the equation.
There has been som guesses on various languages from the Phillipines, which I don't believe in for a second.
But Jack's computer software also came up with two Angolan languages, Kwangali and Luvale, which strengthen my initial hunch.

Angola is immensly influenced by Brazil, priests and church workers come over from Brazill all the time, and all the TV shows is Brazil soaps and sitcoms.
My theory is that the good pastor went over to Angola and taped a get-together with a local parish there.
Their pronounciation wouldn't differ between Catholics and Evangelicals anyway!
If that's not it, my only guess left is Glossolalia!

the first verse says
