I received yesterday the same email from the same person as Román and Víctor. Not to trust.

I'm so happy to have read your comments. I was about to say yes to the "big project" they offered me yesterday (6 October 2024), with no prior proof of my expertise whatsoever. 0,25/word, 22,000 some words movie script, etc... Suspiciously, when I tried to open the page "craftedfreelancers" at the university, it was impossible, because the net detected some dangerous stuff within the page. Definitely a scam. Both their address and phone number are a joke.

Wouldn't it be easy for you to prevent the dispatch of messages at least from senders that use known scammer names/firms and the like? (I also wonder why so many messages are sent through TM-Town...)

Just the same Oct 7

On the 6th of October I received the same proposal after answering the first email. It sounded really strange to me.

Such a shame and pity

Exact same offer received Oct 7

Hello everyone,

This is actually very helpful. I received the exact same offer, and upon asking for more info about the type of work they required (was this script meant for subtitling or dubbing?), they gave a very vague answer and wanted to send me a contract right away. If I was dubious before, this definitely confirmed my suspicions.

I told her I didn't like to complete a project without having clear terms and declined the offer. Looks like I dodged a bullet!

Scam Oct 7

Thank you, guys! Being able to share these kinds of things among peers helps us all. I also received a similar message (different project and different rates, but still great), and it also immediately rang the mental alarm.

I was able to log in to TM Town via my ProZ credentials without a problem and I could see the message directly on TM Town. However, I haven't been active translating for a while so it was a red flag to me to receive such a good offer claiming my profile was appealing. They are interested in translation from English to Spanish to Spanish from me. I checked the Contact Us page of Crafted Freelancers and they have a Google Maps photo of the US, however the address is a mix of a city in Cardiff, a Postcode/Zipcode from North of Wales and the phone number is from Northern Ireland. Additionally, the domain was only registered a month ago and you cannot see the owner of the domain as they contracted a company that protects their identity. I would say that with your comments and my additional findings this is a scam.

But especially after this thorough investigation by Silvana and all the other comments, I think there's no doubt about it.

Hi guys! Thank you so much for sharing this. I received the same message (in my case, it was a movie script), and I immediately got a bad feeling about the offer. Sadly, Tm-Town has no spam protection in place to protect freelancers.

Definitely a SCAM Oct 7

I'm dealing with them right now. They even send you the script, which is actually from the 2005 film Flightplan, starring Jodie Foster. I even just received a supposed contract. What made me even more suspicious is that when I looked up the law firm, it was from a Nigerian firm.
Definitely a scam.

I received the exact same email that someone previously mentioned: it was a movie script, offering a very high rate with no questions asked, no need to view my profile, and a request for the translation to be completed within 3 days—before I even received a contract. When I expressed my willingness to take on the project, but only after receiving the contract, "Katelyn Regan" replied, saying they would review my translation (58 pages) and then determine the payment based on its quality.

I suggested doing a sample translation first to agree on a rate before starting the full project. In response, I received a contract from an account under the name "Lilly Watson" of "Noble Path Solicitors" with a UK address. However, a quick Google search revealed that the firm doesn’t exist, and the address was a strange mix of US and UK elements. Even before looking it up, I suspected the address didn’t seem right for the UK.

Thank you for starting this thread. I wonder if we should consider creating an entry on BlueBoard to alert others and help them identify this as a scam right away. They are likely to continue targeting more people, and their use of AI for communication makes the messages appear polished, which initially fooled me as well.

I was about to answer this "Katelyn," but I checked Crafted Freelancers out of curiosity and found this thread to be the second result. I'm just commenting to keep this thread alive, so more people see it, mainly since it seems they've contacted so many of us recently.

Is some reality check and calculation of the experience/price ratio. What exactly was there in any of those messages to believe for 1 second that this is not a scam? An unconditional offer to accept a corporate CEO position without an interview but with a couple of years of entry-level clerk experience instead?

Things simply do not happen this way in business. In case some haven't noticed, freelancing means running a business and, as a minimum, a business owner must know current market trends and prices, and understand that .20 cents per word offered to a total stranger in a gift wrap is but a burst of hyena laugh in your face.

American companies practice notices such as "Your mother does not work here" in the breakrooms and restrooms to remind their employees that they have entered a world of grown-ups and must clean their own mess.

I just can't believe that all those stories continue to appear on Proz and people continue "to investigate." Please investigate your email screen to find a Delete and Report Scam button, it takes about 3 seconds on a first try.

I received the exact same email from Katelyn Regan - a movie script, tight deadline, unbelievable fee.

Their website https://craftedfreelancers.com/ is a laugh, from the links to "popular services" that don't work to the half-baked logos of supposed previous clients that still have a "slogan here/a tagline goes here" text... or the typos in the contact address... Out of curiosity I googled Shafodil Spraow from one of the client's reviews and he appears in a bunch of other, equally dodgy websites...

The script by the way is from Flightplan, with Jodie Foster (in Spanish, Plan de vuelo: Desaparecida). You have to laugh... And the text on agriculture mentioned above has also been translated already and is available for download from the FAO website.

Thanks for the thread, though, I did not know what to do with the info.
